A little market research...

And not a lot to do with Jeeps. This is going to seem an oddish question, but here goes:

I'd like to know how many paintballers, airsofters, and adventure-types we have within, say, 40 miles of Terre Haute, IN. I know there aren't any real Army-Navy stores around here, and I'm trying to encourage my mother to do something different. She likes Army-Navy stores about as much as I do, and she's talked about starting one before (her husband is retired AFR, and she's got me - so there would be a knowledgebase for gear,) and I'm doing a little informal market research.

What would you like to be able to find, mainly? Assume it's a fairly small shop, but it would be dedicated to the surplus/adventure gear idea. Some BDU patterns, some MOLLE gear, maybe some ALICE gear (although I never did like those damned metal clips digging into my kidneys - MOLLE/PALS is a step in the right direction!) and maybe some airsoft/paintball parts and upgrades (no 'smithing service - until I have a chance to come out and teach for a month or so. Probably no air fills for paintball at first, either.)

I'd like to know if this would probably be viable. I know it would be an open market - like I said, there aren't any Army-Navy stores around Terre Haute, and I'm tired of hearing her talking about her hours being cut at the clinic where she works. I know she's interested in this idea; she's talked to me about it before, but then she comes up with excuses why she can't do it (which are bull**** - we both know it.) If I can kick open my own business out here, she can do it there - and probably be happier as a result.

I won't commit to anything, but I'm just starting to really gather information ("removing excuses," let us say.)

Please reply via email to dragonland2001 AT yahoo DOT com, if you will. I'll collect information for about a month, collate it, and pass it all along. We'll see what comes of it!

Thank you.

And please - he's set a good example! I forgot to mention, but please put "market research" as the subject if you answer. That phrase should make it through my SPAM filter, and I'll key on it immediately when I start kicking things out that made it through everything else...
