A few questions...

What does lifting it have to do with traction?
take a vehicle with alot of body roll into a corner and tell me where the weight distribution is... going from 55mph, into a Right-loop corner like an off ramp, the weight is going to (somewhat) roll into the front left corner of the vehicle, essentially sending the load from the back to the front, and possibly turning into a dangerous situation on wet-pavement once you try to accellerate again.

thats one (half-assed) analogy..:scared:

Suspension has a huge role in traction..

I guess the real point is knowing how to safely drive your vehicle. Anyone with a big V8 needs to know the limits both on the dry and wet. I know with my transam I joined an autocross club so I could push it to the limits without wrecking the vehicle or hurting anyone else and it just became second nature not to use the skinny pedal too much when it rained. On the plus side with a grand cherokee he probly won't be running summer performance tires on it so traction from a tire stand point should be much better.

  • autocross in a heavy RWD car?
  • Mud terrains rarely provide anymore wet traction then a summer low-pro...

May not have been as fast overall as those little civics but they couldn't touch me when it came to getting swideways :) Very few of them that could run the whole course in 1st gear only either........Loved that car.

x2, driving your rig like a jackass makes your average everyday person think most lifted truck are going to be jackasses.Yea ive lost traction in the rain and rode the wall all the way up the offramp, that was just in my 4.0xj on 33's, bald 33x14.50 boggers, but none the less, if i wasn't doing 60 coming on the ramp i woulda been fine, proof is that the next time i came up on it i did around 40 and was perfectly fine, and in most cases, using your blinker and slowing down in the slow lane to safely exit the freeway wont piss anyone off, Consider it self preservation.Just know your limits and dont exceed them.

The origenal poster, lost a vehicle he inherited, just days after his dad past away.. now, i understand where your coming from, but i really dont think this is the time to "Preach" about how a vehicle should be drivin.. as we all have live and learn situations..

its just a fact, it dont matter what your driving habits are like.. an awd vehicle will handle and keep traction alot better then a 2wd..

Where did i single anyone out?or question there ability to drive?Just was agreeing with the statement,im not preaching rules every one should follow, plus no matter what, shit happens and some situations you cant control. i used my own mistake as an example, im now restating, know your limits what ever they might be. yes il agree a AWD vehicle is safer, but that does not mean RWD isnt.
