Here is a link to the Hell Hole trail pics that I did this weekend. I of course am in the beastly red 2 door xj :D

Looking back, I had fun, but wished I would have ran the Swamp Lake trail with you guys. The Hell Hole trail had a couple intersting spots, but was otherwise pretty mild. I need more hardcore stuff now that I have dual lockers and am set up.

No, you wouldn't have had any fun. It was way too HARDCORE anyway, for such a long trip.

More hardcore than the Rubicon/Fordyce, etc? I think I could handle it. I love how easy it is to climb stuff now with the dual lockers. Before the Rubicon trip and now this Hell Hole trip, I have never had dual lockers. It makes things so easy to the point of almost boredom. I still do enjoy the wheeling and the scenery. The Pres in the club I went with came 20 feet from a bear when he lost his degree shim & lower leaf on his spring pack of his yj. He walked the trail and found it about a mile or so from where we were and locked eyes with a bear. The area was very scenic, I still don't know why this area is called "Hell Hole", it is too nice to be called that. Was there a massacre or something there?

It turned out to not be a big deal. I think the squeak is coming from my brakes. I knew that 1 of you guys would get 1 of my archived quotes. I now I should have made the trek down there. There are some great trails in that area. I swear, I will do what's in my power to join you guys for the Fordyce run 8/14. I'm hoping that some people will want to do this trail on 7/31 as well.

That 3 hour wait was HARDCORE. I almost didn't make it through. Luckily my wife brought me some cheese and salami. We had wheat thins too but she didn't bring me any. I moved to Norcal when I was 6 because I was living with my parents and they moved. We used to go wheeling all the time in our old bronco. Then we didn't. He has a TJ now. I bought an xj because I was tired of driving my landcruiser. It's alternator died so I sold it. Now I'm set-up for more hardcore trails. I show my Dad up all the time and he wants an XJ now too. He was going to come but he's having his gall bladder removed. He'll have a lockright soon because we like changing d35 axle shafts. Luckily we have 4 spares so he'll be ready for hardcore trails too. My brother has a '98 zj. My mom drives a Volvo. It's pretty sweet but I wish it had Portal axles like the Paris-Dakar Volvo. My wife has a corolla but I've been driving it because it gets great gas mileage. My commute is HARDCORE, but the Corolla is setup so I can handle it. She wants me to work in sacramento so my commute is smaller. Thats a little mild for me.

Interesting info Jason. You never know what kind of delays you can have or someone in your group has when you are on a harder trail. So far my xj has held up good and I don't have any major complaints. My wife had her gall bladder removed over 3 years ago and she is still having complications from it/or lack of it. She has been pretty ill lately and has many health issues. I'm still trying to get her to come with me on a trail run like to the Rubicon, Fordyce etc. I know that scenery and outdoors will do her good.
Your dad has a nice TJ and he did good on the Bowman Lake trail in the snow with you, Phil & I. Were you able to get the lock-rite this weekend from the guy who is selling it? It will definately make a big difference in the rear diff. It's good your dad had spare shafts though, because they will break eventually with the locker.
My dd is my 98' gc that is currently in my garage awaiting a new/used tranny. I blew it when I got stuck in the creek during the Lost Coast trip. It sucked that water came into the interior, but I never thought I'd blow my motor or tranny. I guess the current swept into my tranny cooler and contaminated my tranny. I had no tools with me and things were closed on the 3 day weekend so I made it home, had it flushed by AAMCO and then they tell me that it needs to be rebuilt and it will be $2,500+. So I said just flush the tranny and give it back to me, they also put new seals on as they blew out and then it goes out on me 3 weeks later. It is a nice dd though. Right now I'm driving my wife's 98' Pontiac Grand Prix GT. It's nice and quick and gets decent gas mileage.
Can you make it to the 7/31 Fordyce run if you get your frame fixed this weekend? How about you Andy, others??? :dunno:

It was fun and I went with a decent group. The camp ground was awesome, but cost $10 per site where you could get 2 tents up/2 rigs parked. So I paid $5 to split with another couple. I just slept on an air mattress with my sleeping bag and pillow. There was a few drops of rain that fell at 5 a.m. that woke me and the crows there were huge and loud. Hell Hole Resv is very large and scenic. Some people camped down by the Resv itself at the end of the trail, none of our group. I think they came there by boat where they launched off at the start of the trail. The trail takes about 3 hrs or so at a decent pace. Hell Hole Resv is withing 45 minutes drive of the rubicon between Georgetown and Icehouse rd off of Wentworth Springs rd I believe. I was trying to get with some people doing the Con, but they left early in the day Friday and I couldn't make it till late Friday after work. Hope your frame repair goes smoothly, you have to be careful welding the xj sub frame at a low setting.

That's why I'm still open up front..........What's the point of walking over everything

Lee:
Yeah, I do the same thing mostly with my front arb off till I need it which isn't all that often. I like knowing it's there though and it comes through nicely. Heah did you get a new tailgate yet? The 1 guy giving stuff away has a complete tailgate for free in Sac. Check the tread. I'm just getting a roof rack support beam & his pair of tail lights. I bought a got a new tail light at pnp since the Con trip, but I know I will bust them again in the future, so it doesn't hurt to have spares.
