Ok XJ newbie , finally hope to tackle the dead driving light switch today. I am planning a temp switch until I can get a new one orderd. I know there are 4 wires going into the switch (power, dimmer, ground and ???)but what color goes to what. Can someone with a FSM PLEASE Help me out with the wire color and discription for each wire and possibly the order from left to right looking at the back of the switch. :eyes:

Thanks and great site!

I'm not sure if you mean your regular driving lights, or fog lights, but I kept this from a post some time ago. I don't know who posted it. Anyhoo, it pertains to the 98 foglight switch. Someone else may want to verify this....

"On the fog lamp switch, FSM 98 version.

Orange = Fog lamp switch illumination
Light blue = Fog lamp feed from switch
Violet = Signal from switch to relay
Black = Ground"

why would you go through the trouble of a temporary replacement. once you get to the original switch wiring, you might as well install the proper switch . that should be a lot faster than wiring a temp. it should take all of 15 minutes

My (OEM replacement) 97 fog light switch came with instructions showing:

Orange - panel dimmer
Pink - switch control
Violet - relay output
Black - ground

It's about $$$ right now. I have none since I paid cash for the XJ. I have a lighted switch that will work until I get a new fact switch but noticed price increased about the same time as I purchased the Heep, Oh, I mean Jeep.

Sorry man, I have problems speaking and even more problems with typing!

So where did you get your FSM? NO luck with Ebay yet

Don't worry, I will definitely save that schematic at home... I know how to read them! :geek:

Re: 98 XJ Driving Light Switch question UPDATE

Finally made some time last night to give it a whirl. I happened to have an extra switch out of a Plymouth Acclaim LX with driving lights (I used one in my Dakota for 5 years and it was out of an 89 I parted out in 2000) so I gave it a whirl. Well, indeed factory the switch was toast. I wired in the used unit and they worked as expected! So I disassembled the old switch and it appeared that the solder was not good and the heat from the current caused it to melt. Cheap or bad switch one will never know.......

I gutted the old switch housing and installed the new switch in it's place, snapped the unit into the bezel in the dash and all done. Only a 1 beer job.......

Thanks for the diagram and all the help!
