98 factory fog light question.

OK I a 98 classic with the factory fogs. About 2 years ago I bought a set of auto pal headlights and a upgraded wiring harness. 100% improvement, but I had a issue where the bright light indicator was kinda lit and when I turned my brights on I had to shut off the lights all together to get them to turn off. Turned out that the fog lights interfered and caused feedback for lack of a better word. the fix was to remove the relay for the fog lights. run a jumper and pull the fuse on the pass side low beams and high beams ( I found the write up on here or on Jeep forum can't remember). Anyway what it allowed me to do was use the fog lights independently from the headlights well after 2 years of this it has died and from the looks the jumper I used had gotten way hot multiple times. I pulled the jumper and have not used my fogs for some time now.

I want to fix that what I want to do is use the OEM switch and rewire the rest. What I need to find out is should I use a 4 or 5 pole relay and how to wire it up with the factory switch.

I have done some searching on the topic but have not found a actual step by step writeup as of yet.

Thanks for reading my ramble hope someone is able to help.

Wire them just like aftermarket lights...

It doesn't matter whether you use a relay with 4 or 5 terminals, since the lights' combined amperage is well under what a relay can handle. If you want to get really fancy, head to Amazon, NAPA, ebay, Summit Racing, Quadratec, etc etc and buy a relay with dual 87 (Normally Open) contacts.

I wired mine up using this diagram.

There may not be a lot of step by step threads, because it's just a relay and some lights. It is a very simple circuit, and remember to use the right amperage fuses.

If you want to keep the factory fogs I believe that the fog relay grounds the coil through the high beam filament at teh connector behind the DS headlight and that is likely the source of your issue. Need to snip that small wire and reconnect it to high beam filament on your relay harness. Alternately you could use diode or relay logic to create your own circuit to enable a relay to turn on the fogs only on park light or low beam but lock them out on high beam which is actually required by law and maybe inspection in your state.
