97 4.0 to 99 4.0 Block

Any problems swapping a 97 4.0 to a 99 4.0 block?

No problem. These blocks are virtually identical and all the critical dimensions are the same.

What year did the distributor go away, 99 or 2k, I never really looked close but did they just block the dist hole or did they do a new engine block sans dist hole ???

The 4.0 became distributorless in '00 but the same hole is still in the block. The '00 and later models use a camshaft position sensor that's driven by the gear on the camshaft from the same hole.
