95 Rusted XJ

Well, I'm back. I used these forums a few years ago when I was putting money into my Cherokee. Had some fun with it up in the U.P. and haven’t done much with it since.
I moved around a bunch for school and work, had a company car for awhile, so the jeep was in storage for some time. Well, I lost that job and got a new one so now it’s my DD again, unfortunately is the Rust is growing.

I replaced the front passenger half of the floor pan back in 2007, but now the driver’s side is getting bad. So bad, the seat isn’t entirely as attached as it once was.

My company is planning on moving me out to Arizona, so now i need to figure out what to do with the jeep.

I don’t have the skills, tools, or space to take care of it. I'm thinking about cutting my losses on this one and going starting a new one when I reach the SoutWest. Hopefully, this time starting with a little less rust.

Any ideas on if this one would be worth anything? or would my best bet be to just hold on to it to use for a backup or spare parts? The engine seems to be going strong. The only problems I have had have been rust related.

It’s a 95 automatic with 165k miles. Body is a bit rough and dinged up from snow and trail riding in the UP, and the paint is in bad shape. The drivers floorpan and rocker panel are extreemly rusted.

Mods:
RE 3.5" Superflex lift
Front Tow points
AJ's Offroad Armor Rear Bumper

Thanks for any input or ideas of what I should do with this thing.

If you're moving to arizona, the land of rust free vehicles, I would strip it for the good suspension/drivetrain bits, scrap the shell, take suspension/drivetrain bits to arizona, find XJ with blown up motor and pristine body, body swap.

That might be an option. Its a bit out of my experience and I dont have much in terms of tools, but I'm an engineer, I can figure it out.

Got any pics?

Nothing current, I'll try to get some tonight.

I fight the rust demons constantly, if I were moving somewhere that didn't have rust in vehicles I would take all my good stuff and swap to a new body and not even try fixing the rust. You'll never win, rust never sleeps.

It's not too difficult to do the body swap, hell, Kim does one yearly I think.

After getting back into looking through this forum, and seeing the things other people have done to, or have had their jeeps do, I'm starting to just think... It's just a little rust, I can patch it up and get a few more years out of it.

not from the MWC, but we have rust up here too...

I would drive it to Arizona, find a good clean rust free rig for cheap with a blown drivetrain, buy a DD, then beat the rusty heap like it owes you money until it folds in half. Then spend a weekend swapping parts onto the rust free one and move on with life.

If you gotta DD it while planning this, skip the buying a DD part and do the parts swap faster - plan ahead for what you're going to need, buy things in advance instead of discovering halfway through the swap that you need some gaskets, bolts, fluids, and brake lines or something.

I think this is my plan now. I figure I can patch it up a bit and just not do anything big till I get some cash saved up and find the space to be able to do some other work.

Yup, Finally got a camera.

Tech Alum?

That makes two grads. And two transfers on here. Myself included.

Good luck with the sale, seems pretty clean from the doors up.
