I have a friend with a '93 Grand that has a problem. Apparently his key fob remote quit a long time ago. But today he set off the alarm. Now he cannot get the car to strart because the alarm is set. How can he disable the alarm without the remote?

Thanks

P.S. I know this is not a Cherokee Q but...

my dad had a 93 grand limited....all the bells and whistles.....and i seem to remember a trick to reset the alarm without the remote....

lemme guess, the horn starts beeping when the alarm goes off, right?

now, this was a long time ago, but i seem to remember, if when the alarm is going off, you can deactivate the alarm by putting the key into the drivers door lock and turning it like you would to unlock the lock.

this should do it....

Just for future reference (since it looks as though the question's already been answered)... Stuff like this should go into the 'Other Tech' forum. Just FYI.

Thanks Cap,

He tried that and it didn't work. If you ask me it sounds like the sensor that senses the unlock position is not working. Which is why the system armed when he locked it but the alarm activated when he unlocked and then opened the door. I did find a site where I asked the question and was told how to completely disable the system. So hopefully he should be good to go.

Casm,

Thanks for your super input on this. I asked here because I figured that disabling the alarm system on a Grand would be simular if not exactly the same as on an XJ.

I guess though seeing that I've been on these boards for 5 years and this is the first time someone told me I posted on the wrong board I'm doing pretty good. Or people around here are getting really annal.

Thanks to all,

Thats how it's done or our 98. ZJ's have a body computer that controls things like the windows, door locks, the dome lights, in some trim levels it even controls the HVAC, power mirrors, and seats. So in that area ther compleatly different that our XJ's. You can however ground the arming wire to keep the alarm from actvating. IIRC you can also disconect the alarm module without any adverse efects on the other systems.

That's the answer I got from another board I posted on. My friend grounded the arming wire and all is well.

Thanks,

any of the 3 door lock or liftgate key cylinders are aquipped with a disarm switch. one door switch could be bad so you ca cycle the key in another. a lot of times the alarm will go off due to an out of adjusted hood ajar switch. you can just unplug it and the rest of the alarm will function normally.
