Looking for a 9'' detroit or equivalent locker 4.56 prefer 35 spline. I'm tired of Richarding around and snapping axles (only 1 in 20 years). I'm serious this is B.S. getting people thru or unsticking them winching them unstuck and having to turn around and go home alone mind you.

So is this a WTB? or a rant that you don't like helping the people you wheel with continue to have a good day?

1 snapped axle in 20 yrs sound pretty damn good to me.

X2 on above link. He should set you in the right direction for what you need.

Nah what I meant was I was disappointed after getting a couple of people going I broke. The axle broke at Big Bear fest after 20 years, 15 of those mostly wheeling. Big Bear, Hammers, Calico, Panamint City, Surprise Cyn, Goler, Moab. It is 28 spline stock so I KNOW I got more than I should have. The problem was I replaced it with Currie axles. I went out Sat. got to the 2nd rock section pass the gate of John Bull & I kept getting stuck. Finally someone said right rears not turning. I said no way new axles. Sure enough turned around and went home. Took it to Currie they said it was a mess up someone had machined 31 spline down to 28 removing the hardness. I told them I never even heard it snap, he said that it would not have made a sound because it twisted. The break was jagged not smooth like when the snap. Needless to say they are great guys and stand behind their product and are going to make me new axles in any spline I want but I should step up to 31 or 35. The problem is I can use my original case with 31 not 35. My locker is 28 and in great shape other than the fact that it has the broken piece wedged in there. I'm sure I can get 2 to 3 hundred for it but not like that. Long story short I hope they consider my loss of camp site fee, synthetic oil, fuel, gasket/seals, Detroit locker, bearings ect... There's 300-400 invested in the whole deal not counting my locker. I told them I'd buy the case, pay the difference in the locker to 35 from 28 if the axle won't come out clean, pay the synthetic oil, but they would have to replace the bearings and gaskets as well as axles which they already agreed. The axle broke because they did the wrong axle size and may have ruined my locker and ruined the weekend I do not think that is too much to ask or am I?

you broke a second shaft?

Broke the one I replaced so I guess yes! But it was a screw up on their part having machined the 31'2 down to 28. They said the hardening and chemical etching they do only penetrates a 1/4'' into the axle so when it was machined down they machined out the temper. The axle sure shows it was not tempered, and the way it broke you can tell it twisted. When I set the axle down in the warehouse one of the Currie's he noticed it from 25 feet away, he came right over and said why did they machine a 31 spline down? I worked in a steel forging mill out of high school doing Rockwell Birnell hardness testing on forged landing gear for the B1, & hoof points for the F14 and Intruder aircraft carrier landing hooks, I always thought that the heat treat soaked in but what do I know I was fresh out of H.S.

I hope I get it done for 9/23 Big Bear. I'm sure I will and John Currie & Co. will do right they're good people and stand by their product. I wheeled with them back in the day at Santiago Cyn near Lancaster Totem Pole Ranch & Moab a few times when they started getting into the 4x4 stuff from Hot Rod rear ends.
