I was out driving the other day and passed a house out in the country, and in front of their barn was an older Chevy, it was olive drab, big bumpers, d-rings on them, just an all around big truck. I turned around and went and looked at it and there was a for sale sign in the windshield..The truck has a front Dana 60, 14 bolt rear, 6.2 Diesel, 60k original miles, 4.56 gears..the only things it needs are a starter and flywheel. He said it kept burning starters because it is a 24 volt system. He said he'd take $2500 for it.

Anyone know anything about these beasts? He said its a 1 1/4 ton. I figured with a new coat of Olive Drab, an 8" lift and 40's, i'd have an awesome hauler for my XJ. It seems like its built like a brute, id just like some more information on it if anyone has anything? Worth the price?

Early 80s Chevy pickup? It's an M1008/1009 CUCV, a temporary replacement for the M151 'MUTT' jeep-thing that was in use through Vietnam and the 70s. There are a couple sites around with the CUCV, so hit Google for more.

Try www.olive-drab.com or www.steelsoldiers.com - they're both sites dedicated to military vehicles and collectors.

I'd also give my strater/alternator guy a buzz, and see if he can't whomp up a 24V starter for you. I've handed him oddball requests before, and he's not failed me yet! Click the "San Jose Generator" link on my website.

Hey thanks for the tips! 5-90, if i pick up the truck Ill definetly let you know on the starter! From the info I've gathered, $2500 is a good price for it, I might just have to do it..

Also make sure it has the foam element around the paper air cleaner, if not you will damage that engine and that foam bandaid will require frequent cleaning. I had the blazer version issued to me for two years till we started getting the hummers in, also replace the batteries in pairs, don't do just one....

definitely replace both batteries at once...the damn 24v systems are a pain in the ass to deal with....however those trucks arent too bad...our civilian guys have a couple running around here, and we had some in germany still that worked pretty good

The local rural volunteer fire departments are buying these up. There ain't nothing on 'em that ain't heavy duty.

BTW, Hey Ladywolf! I hope your doing well!

Except the metal body work, after 3 years in the NE they were rusted as hell...and the fact that LBE punched holes in the seat covers too darn easy..
