8274 Winch

I don'y know why I never saw the refubished site when looking for parts.

Now the question is is it worth it? The motor and clutch assembly are gone on this winch and looking at this link I'm going to spend close to 500. Can't I just about get a new winch for this price? What do you think is this winch that good or should I just drop it and look for new???????

You obviously haven't priced out a new 8274.

They're a little tricky to mount on an XJ, but are one of the best winches out there.

I did price them. I guess what I ment to ask is, do I need that much winch? From you respoce it sounds like I do. Thanks for the info.:worship:

If you decide to drop the parts you do have, let me know. I'm always looking for spare stuff.

Good luck!

How much winch you need is debatable. I use a Ramsey 9500 and I like it. A good friend of mine runs a Warn M8000 and uses it quite a bit without a problem in some really tough spots. So the real question you need to ask is how much are you willing/able to pay for a winch. If it were me, I would buy a Warn 8000 lb winch and save the extra money for a synthetic winch rope.

OK what is up with the ropes?? Are they better then the cable?

Bare with me I'm new to wheeling. My brother got me into it with my daly driver and I stubeled across a XJ for 50 bucks so I had to take it. My build is going very very VERY slow, two little kids don't help the effort.

Rope is a lot safer than cable, but both will work OK.

My brother has two 8274 winchs and will probably be parting with one soon. If you would like to wait. The good thing about the 8274 is that is has 150 feet of cable and it's all gear driven. For 500 and the price of the winch I would recommend buying a M8000. Just my .02 though.
