5280 wheelers w/Bushwackers

I have read a few posts about the Bushwacker flares not holding up to wheeling very well. However, in our Chapter Rigs thread there are a few pretty hardcore XJs with the Bushwackers flares still in tact. I really want these flares to minimize all the debris kicked up from my tires, since I have trimmed fenders with no flares. I don't really dig the look of TJ flares and I feel the Bushwackers look the best. So really I just want some opinions from the Colorado folk on their flares. How do they hold up? Cheapest place to get em? Did you do anything different with the mounting points? Thanks.

The thing is, Bushwhackers do look nice, but just like all the other flares out there made of hard plastic - once you bash 'em on something, they break and are very seldom useable again.

What's wrong with TJ flares? I understand not wanting to use the fronts, but a nicely fitted set of 4 rear flares looks pretty damn sharp.

Plus they hold up VERY well to rocks and trees.

Yeah. that doesn't look bad at all. Are those the 'factory' TJ flares?

I used tinnerman nuts on mine. Keeps the screws nice and tight. Yeah the flares get scraped up a bit, but then again so does the rest of my heep.

yellaheep-Those flares don't look bad at all, they actually look quite nice! I have never seen the rears on all 4 corners and it looks really good. I was just turned off from using the fronts, but the rears look good all the way around. I am gonna rethink this a little now.

Yeah, the factory rear TJ flares work really nicely, you just reverse the direction for the fronts and do a little trimming. They really are pretty durable. I have TJ flares on mine and Led has tried numerous times to peel 'em off spotting me thru "Indy" but they fold over and spring right back.

I just talked to someone while I was at the local wrecker who has Bushwackers on his 92 4-door and he said he's thrashed like 2-3 SETS of them and bushwacker always just sends him new replacements for free. So where's the problem? Thank kind of P/R will definately justify the price.

I've been running the same set of bushwhackers for the last 4-5 years. I have good side protection and they have been through a flop. We don't tend to hang them on trees like the guys back east.
