4.56 gears stock......

Picked up a wrangler brocier at the dealer for shit's and giggles yesterday and boy was I shocked! First did you guys know the Wrangler SE and the auto can be gotten with 4.56's! Wouldn't that front bolt right in an XJ? Plus aren't the newer shafts using the 760 joint? just thought of something though. It's low pinion isn't it? Also the new 4 popper is boasting 147 HP and 165 Lb Torque.

Yeah... but front is LP and rear is D35.... so why spend the money on that?? Plus what are the chances that you're going to find a new one out in the boneyard like that?? IIRC the previous years didn't have the 4.56....

I don't ever remember seeing it in the sales literature ever.....

It's weird how DC is doing some good things, Rubicon, and this gear option, but screws up royally on others. KJ? KIlling the XJ! Just thought it was intresting and wanted to share. ALso, I noticed the 3.7 V-6 puts out 210 HP and 235 lb-ft torque. That is more HP than our beloved 4.0 and the same torque! I wonder if it would be easier to get in a 84-86 XJ than the 4.0?

I test drove a liberty to get my Jeep Rubicon chair and I will say one thing: it felt like a COW: no pickup and felt "clunky"..... and the sales guy kept praising the engine and vehicle... but when I offered to give him a ride in my XJ he kind of shut up LOL

But what RPM does that torque and horsepower come in at? What does the torque curve look like?

If you look at the torque curve for the XJ 4.0L in the 2000 sales brochure, you'll see that it puts out 215 ft-lbs at 1200 RPM, peaks at 225 ft-lbs, and maintains 220 ft-lbs all the way to 4500 RPM. That's what I call a flat torque curve.

I haven't seen the torque curve for the 3.7L V-6, but I'll bet it's nowhere near as flat as the 4.0L curve.
