I bought a sweet, clean, straight 1996 Cherokee Sport 4.0 HO Automatic for parts for a really good price because it 'ticks' loudly above idle, and 'clicks' when lightly loaded (as in driving 30 mph, accel verrrrry slowly) Well, I've since decided to fixup and keep the rig for my dail;y use, and buildup my old '95 over the next 6mo (with 200300 miles and a tiny oil leak) for the rough stuff. It has body damage and could probably benefit from some new panels and a frame-straightening... but I digress.
Couple of fellow computer-electronics 'techie-type" (non-engine) guys listened to it and say the motors shot, but I'd like professional verdict before I shell out the time and $$$ for pull and replace of a new/rebuilt one.
Know anyone in
crowd that could swing by (Highlands Ranch) and check it out for me?
From my limited exp. with small and medium sized (VW, FIAT, OPEL, FORD) european 4-cyl engines, I think it may be as simple at a lifter or tappet, but admit it could equally well be as bad as a rod bearing (yikes) or worse... in which case I'd be inclined to Git 'er dun, and replace the motor.
Any help appreciated - Case of beer (your choice) chilled and ready for the Engine tech with time for me

Just back from Spain and achin' to go crawlin'
