4.0 6CYL Flywheel

No one sells a flywheel here in biloxi, MS!!!

I have an automatic, everyone says its the flexplate but a flexplate has no teeth...

Flywheels have teeth and thats what is warped. It grinded against my starter casing..

Yes, if you have an automatic, you need a flexplate, not a flywheel. Parts stores sometimes use these terms interchangeably, which is wrong (like when gear vendors say "reverse rotation").

If your flexplate has no teeth left, therein lies the problem. A new flexplate comes with the ring gear/teeth installed.

When you eventually get your off, I think you'll probably find that it is cracked near the crank flange mating surface. After they crack, they loose a lot of integrity and the starter can bend them.

The flexplate is the cheaper of the two, so that's at least good news for you. Pain in the ass job, though.
 
Yes it is when I just replaced the transmission just to realize that, that is bad! Another thing, I just ordered one through advance auto and it was only 85 dollars. Thank god!

:tear: That's actually rather expensive for a flexplate. Why was yours so much more expensive than Devil_Mutt's from the same place? Did you accidentally order a flywheel? You might want to check on that.
 
I had to order it to even see what it looks like. I will be picking it up today... Ill let you guys know.

Also, the transmission guy around here wants me to bring it in and he said he will match it up and give me the one I need but that will cost me 90-100 dollars...
 
Telling the store that you have an automatic should have been enough for them to know what to order you. I think you need some better parts monkeys.



This is an example of a flexplate. It is light, stamped, has openings in it, and is for use with an automatic transmission. The torque converter bolts to it.

This is an example of flywheel. It is solid, heavy, usually cast but sometimes forged, and for use with a manual transmission. It engages with the clutch disc.

Then go to the online site for one of the parts stores in your area, look up a flexplate for your automatic, write down the part number, take it to the store, and order the correct part. Someone already posted in this thread that they got a flexplate from Advance Auto.
