After reading the post about this subject, it made me wonder about going to 33's. I have a 1999 XJ (4.0L, AW4) with a 3" skyjacker double flex, cut fenders with bushwacker fender flares, JB Conversions 231HD, Tom Woods driveshafts, Superior Axle HP D30 and D35 (30 spline axles) with ARB air lockers front and rear stuffed with 4.11's. I have 31" BFG MT's and was looking into 33" BFG MT's. I just had the axles built less than a year ago and really don't want to change out gears just yet. I built it as an everyday driver that I can wheel the piss out of it without breaking anything. Will the change from 31's to 33's make to much of a difference??? And in what way (highway, city, offroad, gas)???

The responses in the post I started spell it out pretty well.
The 33x10.50s would be a LITTLE better due to less mass weight, but
I've dedided not to make the jump to 33s until I'm ready to regear. Like I said, I live at an altitude that robs the power a good bit anyway, so I'm going to stay away from a setup that will compound the problem.

I ran that set-up. I didn't like it. I commute to work about 20 miles each way. During rush hour traffic I rarely get above 50 mph. This was right in the "lug zone". 4th gear was too high and 3rd was too low. I ran 31's for several years after that. They were much better. I currently run 32's. They are tolerable.
