31s on a budget boost...

So, call me retarded, but I just bought 31" BFGs, and I'm only running a budget boost. I barely hit coming out of the parking lot (big surprise, right?). So, my question for you all is this: Can I run the 31s with some trimming, on a budget boost and be ok?

I've been doing a lot of reading on trimming, and I'm pretty confident that I can get about 2" or so more clearance in the front, but would love to hear what you guys think.

what size BB 1" 1.5" or 2" add some bumpstops and trim a bit.

My stock tire size was a 29.8 on my 60th addition XJ. I ran 30s fine with a bit of rubbin on the back end if I had anybody sitting back there or a load of any kind.

Back Spacing on the rim might be an issue with the lower control arms.
X2 on finding the problem before you try fixing it.

I just read your post in Troy's Project DD thread. If you cave to inchitis, 3" won't be enough. LOL

One more thought: If you have not made disconnects for the trail, you'll be missing a lot of fun.

Good luck!

Well, I had already bought the 31s before I posted, I was trying to determine if I was going to regret it :)

I hit Bill Moore yesterday/today for camping. I had only trimmed a VERY small amount in the front, and none in the rear. Left the sway bar connected, and headed up the trail. First off, you can't get to the lake yet. Too much snow. We got all the way to the last part where you head downhill to the lake, and could no go further. Second, the 31s dented the rear quarters just a bit as they hit, but only where I'll be trimming anyway. The front never hit, but again, I was still running the sway bar connected.

I'll be trimming some this week, and then looking into a small lift. Also, the 3.55s sucked going up I-70! I may eventually look into 4.10s as well.

Hmmm...Yeah, that's not gonna fly.

I set bumpstops on mine (hers) because I got a screamin deal on some 3" shocks. The shocks won't bottom out, but I still want to do what I can to let the axles droop. Since I'm a cheap bastich, I have an old set of 31s I put on for playtime. I wouldn't dream of trying to DD the final drive ratio that you are.

Just what did you do to get 2" out back?

YES.
Iam at 1 3/4 inches above stock, running 3.55's and have not trimmed.
You will be fine. But you will rub the lower control arms a little with the stock backspacing. (Grand Cherokee lower arms will fix that)
Dont forget to extend your bump stop's.

Mine is my DD and I have been all over the San Juans with it and no problems. Not even enough power loss to really even notice.

The backspacing is not an issue with the wheels that are on it right now. They are no where near rubbing the LCAs. I'll be trimming a bit today and I guess I'll see where that leaves me.

Thanks for all the replies guys!
