a space shuttle fell out of the sky.
One of the crew members on this launch was an air force Lieutenant Colonel named Ellison Onizuka.
Well the "E" in EFlores of my screen name stands for Ellison.
25 years ago my dad picked this name for me after this Astronaut. Being as my old man is 30 retired Air Force i kind of understand even though i hate the name.
We all stop and reflect ever Sept 11th after what happened. Well for me this is one of those times too.
I'm sure even though i wasn't alive to see it, that it was a very sad day and should never be forgotten.
Its scary to think the crew probably didn't die until they hit the ocean.

It was definitely one of those "remember where you were" type of days -- I was a sophomore in high school, and watched it live in science class... one of those times your brain can't really process what your eyes are seeing.

I watched live (and I don't mean on TV) from school in Florida. On real clear days (which it was) you could see the launches. We had seen several so we had no doubt what happened as soon as it exploded. A reminder that leaving the planet is a dangerous task, something I think many in the general public took for granted at the time. It is a shame that the shuttle program has been scrapped.

I remember when I got the news. I was driving down I-25 around the Fredrick exit and was listening to the all news chanel 1340AM out of Denver.

I remember it pretty well. I was in 4th grade and a few classrooms all went into the media lab area and we had 3 tvs with it on. we spent the whole week prior to that learning space things for seince class. I remember seeing the teachers freak out and at that age we weren't really sure what just happend. Maybe only seen two or three other shuttle launches at that point really. Then the tone in the voice of the reporter on TV you know it was bad and explosion just rang out. Then they let us go out to break outside for 30 min to an hour or so and then back to our rooms to explain to us what happend.

I was sitting with my girl friend at the time and her mother. We were watching live on TV. It was definitely a WTF moment. These launches had started to become routine and this was just going to be another cool launch. It turned out much differently and terribly more tragic than anyone could have expected.

Thanks for bringing it up and reminding us Eflores.

I Watched it on TV. Hard to believe it's been a quarter-century already.
