I beg to differ,
The case will work, but you will have to swap out the input gear with the one in your present case. Unless you grenaded your front planetary (differential) set you shouldn’t have a problem. The rest of the case is the same. I have installed two early styles into my '91.

I wasn't aware there were any internal changes in the case made. Everything I have done in my (all to frequent) case repairs have been without incident. Though I've never done a complete internal swap, I have swapped two older cases into my '91.
I would suggest that you don't just swap the guts. Swap the whole case.
All you will need to do then is swap the input gears and you are good to go. The mechanical speed pick up on the old case is directly replaced by the electronic pick up on the newer style cases as is the linkage.
