2003 4 liter?

My XJ is a 2000 4-litre with auto trans. Is a 2003 4-litre engine a direct swap for my XJ? I recall there was a small change to the block somewhere in that time period. Thanks.

Looking at earlier posts, it appears I need to know both the year and the model the donor engine is from. The seller seems unsure of both the year and model.

I found a rebuilt 2003 Wrangler engine for sale locally, but according to what I read on the Jeep Enthusiast Forum, the 2000+ Wrangler block is not interchangeable with the XJ block.

There are a lot of differences. The motor mount bosses are different on each side. Brown Dog makes a set of motor mounts for that. The Accessory drive configuration is a lot different. The bosses etc. are there to be drilled and tapped. I did start on this about 2004 or so. Never finished it. Last thought was to keep the WJ accessory drive. Then use an electric fan setup. I changed to a '95 head, so I lost an idler pulley. Possibly a '95 part would replace that. Some have successfully done this swap. I think there is a writeup on Great Lakes XJ.

They are different like mentioned above. I have a buddy locally that did the swap with a 06 block and had to swap accessory drive and a bunch of other things. @DBowlden
