2000 XJ purchased on e-bay Diagnostic Codes

You can rent/buy a code reader that can also clear codes at autozone or even buy one at walmart. Clear them in the parking lot before the inspection guy comes over.

Then go home and do a major tune up. Also try adding some kind of additive in the gas for getting rid of water. Had that happen to my old XJ and ran like crap and gave codes all over till I put about 10 of those cans in there.

Have the vehicle tuned up, check to see if the fan is working, and most importantly, Don't ever buy a used vehicle sight unseen!!! (P.S. put a bulb back in the ck engine light, the fact that it didn't come on when you 1st turned the key should tell you something)

Don't ever buy a used vehicle sight unseen!!!

Amen to that!

put a bulb back in the ck engine light

Just how do I do that?

How do I access the bulb. Can I just reach under the dash or must I unscrew the dash and open it up?

Yes, I am literally asking how to change a light bulb…………

Thanks

You'll probably have to remove the dashpanel.

I'm not faimilar with the 2000 though, but it looks like the top panel must be removed.....as how it is with my 95.

You can't access it from underneath.

Wasn't there a TSB for a manifold heat shield that had something to do with misfires?? I have a factory service manual I could look through for whatever you needed.

The manifold heat shield TSB was to prevent a service code for the #3 cylinder. It shouldn't affect all of them.

As for getting the dash out, I know it comes out over the column, and can't be accessed from the back, but I've never had to pull mine out, so I can't make any intelligent comment.

As for non-intelligent comments: I bought a 87 Cherokee last month that I STILL haven't seen! What are you talking about,"never buy sight unseen"?
