Not bad. I paid 10K for my 97 with 40K on it. That was almost 8 years ago though.

8,000 is a little high for ANY Cherokee in my opinion, but its pretty rare to find an XJ with that low of miles. Do you have any pics of it?

I wouldn't call it a GREAT deal.....
I paid $5k for my '98 with 48,000 on the clock.
And I got the high pinion d30 in the front. You most likely have a low pinion....

You paid what you paid for it, but that sounds like retail from a dealer and way too high to me. You probably should have asked before you bought it. Last September, I paid $4,500 for my 2000 Classic with 70k miles on it, and it's a beatifully maintained Jeep. Now has 84k miles on it, and is a great little Jeep. Gets me to Texas and back pulling a 6'x12' utility trailer and through Indiana Winters. You'll be happy with it if you maintain it.

$8K is a bit high for an xj that's something I'd expect to see for a 2k wrangler as 8k could have bought a good xj already decently built up. To late to do anything about it now though but definately need to post pics. You said the engine's in mint condition, check to see if you have the 0331 head and being up north check closely front to rear for any rust as I bet there is some.

In 04 I bought my stock 96 with 94k for $4500. Paint was a little faded and they were having problems with the NSS, but otherwise good. The NSS didn't give me any problems until 6 mos to a year later. Cleaned it put it back together and it's been fine since.
My buddy just bought this 2001 2 door for around $2k with 50,000 miles on the odometer:
Of course it didn't have the lift on it up until a week ago (4" IRO Critical Path long arm). Super clean, has one ding on the passenger side, and was well maintained... by his parents. Don't think you could find a better deal otherwise. We still have some trimming to do - trying to keep it as low as possible with a 33" tire. Frankly, it's probably one of the best looking stock-ish XJ's I've seen around in a while - I really like the 10.5" wide KM2's on the stock wheels.

I would take all of the criticism with a grain of salt. I was looking all over the country for a similar year, model, mileage, and couldn't find a much better deal than that for a clean Jeep. There were some I would consider "less than clean" for cheaper, but I wanted a very nice one. If you love it, it doesnt matter what you paid for it...you'll get your money's worth mileage-wise. In my opinion (whatever that's worth, haha) a low mileage XJ at $8k still has an excellent dollar-to-mileage-expectancy ratio.
