2" lift

Ok, here is my question for the guru's. I am looking to lift my 94 xj with this
lift kit from MAKO. It comes with 2 round spacers and 2 blocks for the rear. Now just to let you know I am not after the off road ability but just a higher look. Also, I want to know if this will be an easy or hard install. My 94 XJ is bone stock and would also like to know with this kit, will it accommodate larger tires, ie...30's whith no problems. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it will work and allow you to run 30's. If you don't 'wheel you COULD even run 31's. How hard is it? There are TONS of directions online. The process isn't too bad but you do need jackstands, PB Blaster and at least 8 hrs to do it if it's your first time. The only special tools are a 1/2" breaker bar and an assortment of sockets including a 16mm Deepwell. My computer crashed and I've lost all my bookmarks so I can't give you exact links but
some of the regulars here will have them.
Madxj.com has good write ups on the front end and similar work on the back.
BTW the rear block is the least desireable way to get the back done from an offroad perspective. If your springs have saggged already it's a poor choice. In that case get a full lenght AAL and it will be a tolerable upgrade until you get inchitis!
Several of the regulars here will give more info and I will add more later also but try this too
Dpgoffroad.com (not a link, type it) Dirk will take good care of you. Tell him you want a RE6160 and ask to upgrade to the full lenght AAL's. For the price it can't be beat, spacers, aal's 4 shocks, misc parts and I think it's like $230+- . Got it on mine. Good ride, well worth it.

Ditto Asatxj, -- don't go with blocks--, you might as well do it right even if it is just for looks. If you wan't to lift even more in near future do shackles. Rocky Road outfitters sells a good 2"bb w/ shackles for cheap. If 2 inches is all you think you will ever need for the next few years A full length add a leaf (aal) for the rear is your best option because it will help out those old springs. I know what it's like to install a 2"BB and only gain 1" lift in the rear because of the old saggy springs.

I appreciate all of the info. I am looking into the RE 6160. Just one more question for you guys, will I have to modify any of the drive line. Thanks again.

HIGHLY unlikely. Newer models (97+) MAY need a tc drop added.

Yes. If you were to wheel it, you should consider longer shocks. But since you don't wheel it, you can use your stock shocks.

That's 96+ with the new t-case output that might need a t-case drop or an SYE.

For on-road only your stock shocks will fit but are near the end of their stretch. If you decide to take it off-road you'll need the longer shocks before you rip the shock mounts off

Installed 2"BB one week before the 20th Anniversary in Moab using stock length shocks. Wheeled it good in Moab for 4 days, gave it a decent workout. Performed great, better than stock, have the rear anti sway bar removed and unbolted the front for the whole event with no problems then or since then. You won't have maximum articulation (which involves more than just proper shock length), but your not going to rip off the shock mounts!

Hmmm...after I did my BB I had to run the stock shocks for awhile until I could get the tops loosened. When I was finally ready to pull them I realized I had only an inch of downtravel available. Hey, it's your axle...if you want to risk 'em go right ahead
