Yes it can be replaced by a 4.0. Anything is possible given enough money and timeunclemonte said:Can anything be done to improve performance of the 2.5 ? This is a 96 XJ and its stock. Im brand new at this so pardon my ignorance. Can it be replaced with a 4.0 ?

I loved my 2.5L and its 25+mpg, but here in the mountains, it simply didn't have the lungs for the passes. I never was at a loss for power on the trails. I do know that when I went to the stroker, I sure started busting a lot more axles. I lost 2 within 10 minutes of eachother on simple obstacles.
