Usually, the 2.8 l went with 3.73 axle ratios, and the 2.5 l got 4.10s (4.11). There have been other combinations reported, so best to check ( the tag on the rear dif, or count the revolutions, or open the dif and count teeth on ring and on pinion).
84-86 is pot luck.... aqnything from 3.31 fuel economy package, to 4.10's! I have seen 3.55's and 3.73's the most in those years. With 4.10's being not as common in those years as what people think! Oh yea I have yet to see a 84 with 4.10 too... they usually have 3.73's!
My 85 has a 2.5 engine, 3 speed 904 tranny, with 3.73 gears. With 31" tires it is ok on the highway but crappy in the city. I will be going to 4.56's in the future.
