1998 Chevy Malibu tranny probs

my aunt sent me an email about her tranny going out. this a lile bit of that email. it sounds like the tranny to me It smelled liked something was hot but the temperature gauge never indicated that was the case. I've driven it twice about 2 miles each time since then. It makes awful sound until it gets up to 45 so I guess I lost 1st gear maybe 2nd. It also used alot of gas just going those 2 miles. I forgot to mention that it was acting odd whenever I would go down a hill. It seemed like I had to wait for either the transmission or the engine to catch up with the other.

Well man if the trans fluid smells burned up or hot I would imagine that it has over heated. The engine doesn't have to overheat for the trans to. If it has over heated you can say goodbye to your torque converter and pretty much everything else inside the trans.
