Has anyone had any luck with spinning the 90 degree oil filter fitting to a position other than almost straight up??? Thanks to all of you guys and gals for having me onboard...Pat
You need the later adapter; although I thought '92 was the first year for the horizontal adapter anyway. Hit the dealer up for one from a '96 4.0L and get some new o-rings while you're at it.
Thanks Yuccaman...I've read that the 1991's had the correct piece...but darned if the thing ain't still upside down....I'd like to join you guys with the 35's+, 4.10's-n-change, lifts, etc....someday...if only I could get approval from the appropriations commitee.........
You still get a bit of dribbling when removing the filter in the horizontal position but that's another reason I disconnect the oil pressure sender - I've got big hands and arms so it takes a quick whip of the wrist to spin the filter off and set it upright on the frame before lifting it out. Of course, it's also a good idea to disconnect the battery before doing that so you don't drop a metal-cased filter across a circuit...
The other big advantage of "going horizontal" is that you can use the larger 1-qt filters too. Don't let old_man fool ya with his toilet paper filter...
I've been around for a couple of days, the T.P. filters were real big in the early 70's, I use wix filters only.
I'll be getting the other filter adapter here soon. Thanks for the help.
