I am faced with choosing between my 90 xj with 198k miles that is loaded and in good shape that I paid 3,300 dollars for. Or a 89 toyota truck that has a shell and carpet kit and is in about the same condition (good) for only 2000 dollars. Both have the same amount of miles, the truck is a four cylinder manual and the jeep is a i6 with auto, both are fwd. I want to know which one is the better vehicle in the opinion of the readers. I have never owned a toyota and would like to know if there are any good and bad feedback about them. Speak freely on this subject, thanks a lot,

HUM postung this on a jeep fourm is kinda funnny. toyotas are good trucks but depending on what you want out of the vehical depends on what fits you better. for the hard parts it tough not to like the XJ with a soild axle and a great motor compared to IFS and a 4 banger. the truck is well a truck you can take the cap off and use the bed with the xj you have room for 4 people.

'Yotas are good pickups, but like the man said ... this is a Cherokee forum. What do you expect, that we'll recommend buying a 4-cyl Yota to replace a 6-cyl XJ?

Get serious.

If it was an 85 yota I'd probably take that but since you're getting ifs I dont think it is worth it. My friend has a 90 toyota and it can't flex worth a damn allthough it is so damn lite that it does float on loose dirt better than my xj....Too Bad I own him with my lockright:D

I'd go for the XJ. The yota 4cly is aboslutly gutless! Not to mention that the IFS sucks too. They are great trucks but I think an XJ is a better all around vechical.

Shame on you guys :nono:
The first question is: what do you intend on using it for?
If it is for moderate to heavy wheelin then definately the XJ. If it is for light wheelin (ie campgrounds etc) then it is a draw, if it is to haul stuff then the yota might be better suited.
What are your needs?

Yotas...

Condsider this... Doesn't matter what you fix on the toy it'll ALWAYS cost you twice as much as a cherokee, and you'll never get twice as much outta IT!!

Well I picked up that yota truck last night and drove it home, for a guy that is over six feet tall (barely) it is kinda hard to sit in. So I spent the two grand that the girl wanted for it and this morning before work parked it out on the frontage road of 101 with a for sale sign in the window. I just got a chance to step in after work and just sold the thing for 3500 bucks! I must say that in its own way that truck is bitchin! It sure helped me round up some spare and quick cash to put into my xj.

Was that a regular cab? Mine was an XCab, and even at 6'4" I felt like I fit pretty well. Of course, the seats are mighty low to the floorboards so I always felt like I was lounging...

it was an extra cab but the lowness is what got to me. When I drive a manual I feel uncomfortable in that type of position, I guess I am just used to my one ton dodge where I am completely upright.
