1988 Cherokee HIGH BEAM CONTROLS

I believe the high beams kick in when pulling in on the left hand arm of the steering column. I'm also assuming that the piece I need to "click" into place is broken but I have no idea what I'm looking for. Does anyone know of a diagram showing this, or a website explaining the parts and operation of this particluar steering column? Thanks!

It's a standard General Motors/Saginaw steering column. The turn signal stalk also actuates the dimmer switch. There is a link from the stalk down the column to the actual dimmer switch. There's another thread running right now asking about the ignition switch -- in that thread is a photo of the dimmer switch.

Thank you. I'm wondering if the handle is even engaging the beams at all. There's no friction at all, just all loose.
