'05 Grand Cherokee

There is a neighbor down the street from me who is an engineer with DCX, and from time to time we have a beer or 6 in the yard. Last night, he was showing me Rubicon training for the Sales force. Nothing funnier than some sales-dork firing a Rubi up a hill with the throttle to the floor locked up in 4 low. Rattled his dman teeth out.
Back to the reason I am posting. I got to see a few shots of the new '05 grand Cherokee. For '04, they are just stuffing a 5.7 Hemi in the Overland package. He confirmed for me that the base motor will be a 3.7, and the 5.7 Hemi will be an option if the 4.7 is not for you. The rig WILL have IFS, though, and Jeep feels it is being daring keeping the solid rear axle. I could not get him to part with any of the photos for posting, due to his liking his job, and all. It does look a lot like a Mercedes M-Class, though. Here is a link I found with an article and some cover shots. Air suspension!?!?

Oh Rev, did he make you one of those Black Russian Kaluha things? Yeah. The sort of erased Friday night for me.

So about that Grand Cherokee....

I swear, I am telling the truth, he is really an engineer for DCX.
:D
The drink is a 'Blind Russian', which is a White Russian with Baileys substituted for Creme.
My mixing amounts are secret, and they vary, but essentially vodka, Kahlua, and Baileys.
I went foggy after the first time I saw Tonya in the shower, too.
Tamber has a low center of gravity, and I fear that she will join the trend of Attica girls aging very, very poorly.
I have the pics done, but no place to host them, as of yet.
Nalgene and White Russians are the devil's taxidriver. :D

Now, Now, your all questioning a gentleman. He DIDN't say what size those 6 beers were. 12 oz, 22 oz 40 oz???????:D

Honestly? I like it.

I don't like the idea of IFS but what are we gonna do.

Edit: Now that I read the article, I guess even that picture is speculative. Go figure. The people who did the picture are probably wishfully thinking as well.

Hey, you leave the nalgene out of your improper accusations!! I love that lil' fella.

As for the whole ifs deal, it's bound to happen. Grand's ride like shit compared to all the other newer suv's out there. The folks were gonna go ahead and get one this time around, but the quad coil/ solid axle just doesn't compare to the rest of them.

ifs all the way.

grands don't need solid axles cause they don't go where they're needed.

the one reason i would never buy a grand is BECAUSE of the front solid axle.

my ma' drove my durango, and couldn't believe the difference....

ifs all the way.

Take a ride in an '04 Expedition sometime Beez.

I had wood.

IFS/IRS takes the cake for mall crawling AND Forest Service road driving.

Hmmm ==>

* Short-run model year, production started Monday July 22nd and ended Friday December 20th

Huh? It ain't even December yet.

* Laredo, Limited and Overland models continue

* Laredo Sport model discontinued

* Special Edition model discontinued until MY 2004

Anyone have any idea why?

* Suspension - Reduced-pressure shocks for improvements in overall ride comfort

In other words, a softer on-road ride, further compromising a suspension that was already too soft

* Brakes - Reduced brake pedal effort allowing shorter stopping distances during braking maneuvers, accomplished by increasing the master cylinder output pressure for a "lighter" brake pedal feel. New brake calipers for 2003 complement lighter brake pedal feel, providing smoother and more linear braking

Just what we've been doing for years, by juggling the diameters of the master cylinder and wheel cylinders. This is news?

* Steering - Revised steering gear torsion bar, reducing steering effort both on- and off-center by a very noticeable 20-percent

Back to the days of AMC and power steering that was grossly and massively over-boosted

* LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) system for mounting the new generation of aftermarket infant child seats. With the LATCH system, child seats attach directly to the structure of the rear seat, making them easier to install.

* Three "New" exterior colors (these were actually introduced 2nd half of the 2002 model year) - Bright Silver Metallic, Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat and Light Pewter Metallic Clear Coat.

Yeee Haw!

* Bumper fascias and cladding on Laredo models go from current molded-in-color metallic to molded-in-color non metallic. Medium Driftwood Metallic will be replaced with Taupe while Gray Metallic will be replaced with Dark Gray.

* Three colors discontinued - Black, Silverstone Metallic and Woodland Brown.

* New Satin Silver 17" Wheels for the Overland as standard; chrome wheels remain optional

* New chrome 17" Rogue wheels replace 2002 versions

* High back cloth bucket seats for Laredo

* Laredo center I/P bezels change from silver metallic to black

Truly a "must have" enhancement

* Rear head restraint design on the rear seatback goes from a flip/fold style to an adjustable up/down style with the head restraints being removable

* Overland model can be ordered without Up Country suspension (order code SDA "Quadra Coil Suspension". SDA is a no-credit $0.00 "delete" option for the U/C suspension)

Now why would anyone want to order an Overland vehicle with an underland suspension?

* Oil pressure gauge no longer reads actual "pressure", but rather is just a 'slide switch' (On/Off). (Running change from 2002-2003)

Continuing the DCX trend of "dumbing down" Jeep vehicles in order to better appeal to the sheeple. Gid forbid we should have to (GASP!) REDA a gauge to know if we have oil pressure or not. "Slide switch (On/Off)" sounds suspiciously like a euphemism for "idiot light."

I guess I'd better go buy that MJ I saw this afternoon.

I have to admit that I rented an '03 Explorer on Kauai :anon:
It rode very nice, even on the road to Polihale beach which is basically just a series of crater-sized potholes. Being a rental, I went faster than I would in something I owned, to the point of probably looking like the Ford commercials where wheels are in the air :D and it still rode pretty nice. That said, I love my wife's 98 5.2 Limited. It's got all the luxuries, will tow whatever I need it to, and does pretty well off-road with a 2" BB and 255s.

nice cut and paste work eagle....

crash, yep, IFS baby, still can't get it to go down.

I'm, still waiting for these close-minded, brain-washed lemmings to start that mindless rhetoric "yeah but real jeeps have soild front axles"

whatever

Twin-traction beam, baby.

It's like the best of both worlds.

Or the worst of both worlds.

I can't decide, but the diesel sounds cool.

Had to see it coming. When we bought my wifes grand we looked at an Liberty, if it had not have been so damn tight we would've bought it. The libby rode and handled better (softer) than the grand. The grand has more room than any of the line and needs a suspension to match if it is to stay competative. like it our not folkes, Jeep is here to SELL vehicles, and the off-roaders do not buy enough of them to influence the bean counters. I predect within 10 years, if not less, there will be no more trail friendly Jeeps produced in this country.

Flame suit on.

Rev, I think you're being over-optimistic. Probably within 5 years the Wrangler also will be some kind of mini-Liberty, and we know how trail-friendly those are  We'll just have to keep our XJs running forever somehow.

Easy there fellas...

I only hate what it represents, which is a greater departure from simplicity. I have not driven a big SUV enough to really know the difference. My statement was just pointing out another sign of the times. One more Jeep thing that I won't understand for a time is IFS. I do understand the meaning of 5.7 HEMI, though. A Grand with a HEMI and IFS would make a hell of a tow rig.
Keep it in the family, you know.
When I want comfort, I strap into the wife's Jetta GLI limited with the 6 speed stick. 90 in that feels like 30 in my rig.
Round headlights, eh?
