The low down........I was unistalling my amp, get done and went to move the Jeep, the battery was dead. I buy a new one yesterday and I had no problem starting it until about 4 this afternoon when it gave me some trouble. I get it started and go have the alternator and battery checked, both check out fine. I get home and it has set for about 2 hrs. now and it won't start at all. When I do try to start it I get a sound like sparks flying when you reconnect the batt. cables. I still have lights, radio, all power acc., but no start. I have checked all fuses and batt. cable connections and all is good.

Anyone have any ideas. I would like to get this fixed tonite if possible, work tomorrow.

Thanx for ANY help.....

You may have a short somewhere, draining the battery. Try connecting a volt-ohm meter (set on amps) between the battery cable and battery- if you see a large draw, then there is a leak somewhere. Start by checking all wires and connections near where you worked to remove the amp.

My amp was under the seat and the power wire is still there, but no power going to it. I pulled fuse to it in the distrubition block. I unplugged all the connections to the amp from the back of the head unit.

I just went out and when I try to start it, I get a clicking noise. I'm thinking starter relay or starter solenoid. How can I test the relay to see if it is good or not. I may can get a hold of an ohmeter tomorrow.

update......

have voltage to starter solenoid.

just noticed that the neg. batt. terminal is very hot to the touch. jeep has been setting for the past 4 hrs

It sounds to me that you still have a live connection grounding out somewhere which is draining the battery.

Considering the fact that this all stared with the removal of the amp it seems likely that it's related to that circuit. Is it possible that you removed the wrong fuse from the dist. block and the amp power lead is still hot? Or maybe the wire leading up to the dist. block got chafed and is grounding out?

With out knowing the particulars of you wiring I have know idea how likely any of these are, but seeing as this started with the removal of the amp is seems like it would be the most likely suspect.

Good Luck!
