I've got a 2001 XJ sport that I've given up on fixing. I need a rough ballpark on what to ask for this POS as I need it gone from my driveway soon.
Here's the facts:
2001 XJ Sport, 4.0 w/Auto. Many new parts, tow hitch, decent body with good condition interior.
It will not run correctly...
I could be your Crankshaft position sensor. My 2000 was doing the same thing. The big bang/shuddeer was the engine stalling beliefly at speed. The big jerk/shudder was my rear pinion absorbbing all the shock. the trtuck would only stall for a milisecond, but it was enough to blow out the pinion...
Your plan B. Timer, bosh relay, momentary switch.
Power is pulled from the battrey for the relay, and fuse taps for the switch and timer. Everything has cicuit protection in place. I taped the light blue wire to the fan to power it from the extra relay. Soldered it in place.
The fan timer...
Well, I got the above refrenced radio shack diode installed. Here's what happened
Initial install first run the PO1491 code disappeared. Also PO136 stoped as well.
Transmission range sensor code still present, as well PO130. New pending code was something to do with the evap system.
Ten...
The crank position sensor will do exactly what the original poster described. Carry a spare and only get them from the dealer.
When mine failed the sudden drop in RPM's from it stalling at speed was enough to blow out the pinion bearing in the rear of my 2000 Cherokee.
don't fool around with...
Hey all...finsihed up the E-fan timer install as documented in this thread http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1028190 and I've run into a few problems with codes.
The first code is PO1491 - Rad fan control relay curcuit. This seems to turn off when I disconect the timer circuit. I...
I was fishing a couple of wires through the bulkhead with a piece of bailing wire. I caught the tail end on battrey and had a nice little spark show.
Now I get the following codes
P1491 - Radiator fan Control Relay Circuit
PO130 - 1/1 O2 Sensor heater Circuit
PO136 - 1/2 O2 Sensor Heater...
Well, I got my install done....with a few glitches. This is the exact same install using the Elk960 timer/relay. Bosch relay with a momentary push button for the trigger.
I caught a few sparks while fishing wires through the bulkhead. Finished the install this morning and I'm throwing a few...
So, has anyone figured out which fuse to tap into? I've been following this and I'm pretty sure that wasn't covered. I know they need to be constant hot but beyond that I'm not sure.
PS - where do I find a list of what fuse does what? not listed in the owners manual, and could not find it in...
When checking the collant level, always do it from the bottle. When you open the radiator cap your just letting air in the system. Natural expansion/contration will be regulated by the overflow bottle. Check the level there when the engine is stone cold, it will be your best indicator.
Your check engine light and hesitation are due to "Heat soak". Basicly a design flaw for the years 200/2001.
The only real cure is to install a timer so that when you shut the rig off the fan will run for a little and cool off the engine. In the meantime, when ever you stop, open the hood...
the problem with heat soak and be a nightmare. my 2000 has it bad. new ford injectors made it worse, went back to the originals. fuel pump tested ok, but new fuel pump seemed to improve things. don't go with ford injectors sswap on this year, seems to make things worse for me.
i would stay...
I've got the same issue, here's what to do.
Pull the valve cover and look for obvious cracks, I've been told the area between number 3 and 4 cylinder is where it happens the most.
Do a compression test, your looking for balanced readings. If two cylinders ajacent to each other read lowere...
