Changing Engine and Transmission Mounts before Rear Main Seal

Thanks guys. And glad to know about the aftermarket engine mounts, I was thinking about the Brown Dog ones. As for the correlation between engine/transmission mounts, it only makes sense to me that play in engine mounting and transmission mounting would only exacerbate an issue where the two...

Changing Engine and Transmission Mounts before Rear Main Seal

Got a typically leaky rear main seal and when I bought it a mechanic I trust immensely told me that in a vehicle of its age and mileage ('98 & 175k), it would likely leak again. I assumed he was talking about old engine and transmission mounts. So before I commit to the RMS job, I figured I'd...

    Aftermarket Seat Heaters Advice?

David, I'm 2 hrs north in Watertown. I could likely get away without the block heater, but it may reduce the time it takes my heater to warm up. As for the seat heaters in your Jeep, did you install them in the seats and what kind were they?

    Aftermarket Seat Heaters Advice?

Wet Okole (Okole is butt in Hawaiian) and I enjoyed having them in my TJ in Hawaii, but I'm looking at some that I can add to the OEM leather seats in my Limited. It's not Land Rover leather, but I'm going to get all I can out of it.

    Aftermarket Seat Heaters Advice?

So we just moved to up-state NY after 6 1/2 years in HI and it's already getting cold here. I had planned on getting around to a block heater and some seat heaters, but I think I need to step up my timeline a little bit. Has anyone added aftermarket seat heaters to their XJ and if so would you...

Steering Box Top Bolt Giving Me Fits

just like the title says, reinserting the top bolt for my steering box after a bumper install is giving me fits! Any tips?

Yet another lift kit thread - OME vs Others

So, I appreciate all the input and I went ahead and ordered the HD ultimate 3.5" kit. Dirk is a hoot to talk to and seems like a wealth of knowledge too. I'll let you know how it goes and some picks as well maybe.

    Bumper install conundrum.

So I'm pulling my rear bumper and tow hitch off my '98 today and I find the weirdest thing when it comes to my passenger side nut strip. Instead of all nuts, it has two bolts hanging down to attach the exhaust hanger. I removed the nuts and the exhaust hanger and it's like they are welded down...

Yet another lift kit thread - OME vs Others

Yeah Bwinter, I've pretty much made up my mind to go with the HD 3.5 kit. I just keep hearing too many good things. I'm not likely to go long arm or anything too much crazier in the future, so this will be my major investment in my suspension. Great looking Jeep though. What's that rear...

Yet another lift kit thread - OME vs Others

Bentroia, Thanks for the testimonial, but it sounds like he might have changed his kits up a little. The current one doesn't advertise any JKS control arms or brake lines. I'll have to call Dirk and see what I'm missing here... Or I could just be reading it wrong. Very well put, "I have...

Yet another lift kit thread - OME vs Others

iluv83vettes, The real reason for the bushing swaps is to clean up the play in the 17 year old suspension. If I have to go a little out of the way to get at one while I'm under there, I'll do it. I've also got a mystery clunk when starting and stopping that I am trying to nail down. Want to...

Yet another lift kit thread - OME vs Others

md, Can you expand on the virtues of the "double shear" trackbar? From what I can tell, it replaces the greasable ball joint with a straight poly bearing. Problem is, it goes down the very slippery slope of more money$$. However, if it saves me heartache and fiddling with my suspension in...

Yet another lift kit thread - OME vs Others

Thanks guys, Given that Dirk has gotten back to me twice within hours of asking a question and the resounding praise he gets across the board, its a safe bet he'll get my money. I'll have to discuss with him if I need all the heavy JKS bits. I don't skimp where safety is involved, but I could...

Yet another lift kit thread - OME vs Others

Thanks md, I'm aware I may need to go the SYE route, but I'm going to see how the lift sits and go from there. Where might I ask did you get your OME setup from? -Wes

Yet another lift kit thread - OME vs Others

I've got a '98 Limited, 2" budget lift, transfer case drop, Smittybilt front/rear/rock slider/tire carrier bumper set, 170k miles, 31x10.5 duratracs & planning on a 9-10k winch. I want a comfortable daily driver that I can count on for forest service/fire roads and in upstate NY snow. I'd...
