I would say the 8274 is one of the better winches ever made, but like moose said, it's heavy and large. Might be worth selling it and buying something a little more compact for an XJ.

My Cherokee had a Flowmaster 50 series and it wasn't loud at all but had a decent rumble. I think on my next project I'm going with a 40, but from what it sounds like, a 50 might be perfect for you.

What year XJ? You don't need to drop the tank to change out the pump if its the early body style. Not sure about the newer ones though.

Speaking of temperature sending unit, I need to change mine out but I'm having a hell of a time getting to it because there is so much stuff in the way. Any tricks to that?
