    drum brake idiot!~

i just did a great jub replacing the drum brakes on my 93 cherokee. 9 inch brakes, chrysler 8."whatever" rear end. One small problem, they both look identical! Identical in that the cable assembly at the bottom is towards the rear on both sides. If the passenger side is the "right" side and the...

    am i getting screwed around?

i think i am. generally i do all my own work, but being busy and not a expert led me to take my '93 manual w/ chrysler 8.25 to a local shop with noise in the rear diff. i had diagnosed the trouble as a pinion bearing which they confirmed. i paid them $669 to replace carrier bearings, pinion...

    Effect of tires on mileage?

i thought you were concerned with fuel economy. bad wheel bearings seem pretty parasitic to me. an engine that is running in warm up mode is not efficient. the 4 cylinder in the corolla runs very well AND gets good milage, even with the cat. so you would dump the cheap, simple cat in favor...

    which synthetic gear oil

i have started using synthetic in my block (175K), but synthetic in the diffs is a bit of a headscratcher for me. so little heat and stress involved. of course i am running stock equip. 90% highway. maybe if i had a ton of cash in a locker and gears bashing over rocks i might see it differently.

    Problem and a challenge

in this order, i would: test the fuel pressure, suck up a can of sea foam or boogie juice of choice via a vacuum line, inspect my fuel lines, do a fuel pump volume test, check out the fule pump relay change the fuel filter again.

    "lowering" xj, please advise

my 93 w/175k has a tomken lift that was probably put on by the original owner when it was new. it has become my dd and sees a lot of highway miles for work, with occasional mild offroad. a variety of sqeaks, clunks and pops have developed. this combined with a ride quality slightly worse than...
