Hey Guys,
When looking for the rare factory original Dana 44 found in fully loaded '87 XJ's, I found two! I installed one and now I have one for sale. It would be a great cheap upgrade simply by bolting on your rear brakes to it and bolting it in (3.73 gears) to any year XJ or simply a great...
I actually have two '87 Dana 44 rear axles from stock XJ's. One is an open for $250 (good choice for lunchbox locker upgrade) and the other is a factory posi unit which would be the cheapest bolt-and-run option that's better than open for $300. I'm going to keep whichever one doesn't sale for my...
Cool idea. The 2.5 that year cranked out about 120 hp and about 135 ft-lbs in XJ's which is a higher rating than the TJ spec 2.5. The 2.5 is also a better choice than the 2.8 L. That motor also came stock with 4.56 gears in an XJ... I'm wondering what gears your Willys has?
...I'm also...
If you're really gonna wheel, you'll appreciate the torque of the 4.56s. Actually 4.88s are even better you're planning on running 35s (yes$$$). If you're worried about 1st being too low, you could simply start off from a stop sign in 2nd gear... I had a buddy with an old 80's chevy that had a...
I'm assuming you could chop the bolts at the plate and then use a metal bit the same size as the threads to drill out the current bolts and make holes through it to fit longer ones. This is assuming you have a grinder and cut off wheel and drill and bits. But I'm just guessing so good luck.
For a lower tone get a bigger exhaust (2.5"+) and place the muffler as far back as you can. And if you're looking to save $ but get a much better and more powerful exhaust, you might as well mount your header yourself, buy a true 2.5" high-flow cat, then have a muffler shop bend you a 2.5"...
If it's a DD don't forget to price out ARB air lockers. They give you the best road manners matched with the best off road manners - you know when they're locked and when they're not! I would say that that Detroits are great for the fair weather/crawler rig but not the best choice for a DD...
Sounds like you've done this before. That's exactly what'd I'd suggest since that's what my body shop guy does. Make sure there is absolutely NO RUST on the metal (grinder/dremel etc.) and then get some primer on it quick... unless you like doing this a lot of course. Just make sure your...
4wheelparts' mag had a half way decent review of the tires at:

-sidewalls are 33% stronger than current MT-KM's
-life expectancy of 40k which means harder compound than the Krawlers of course
