I run 31" BFG MT's on my XJ. It's my daily driver to work 60 miles onway.. They wear really well, great in mud of course, nice ride on the highway not too loud. I had BFG A/t on my dodge ram also a great tire wears like steel as said earlier a nice snow and rain tire and running dirt fire road...
I believe it depends more on which rear you have then the t case. i have a dana 35 and couldnt use a front drive shaft on mine. I went thru http://www.dpgoffroad.com/ for my hackntap and driveshaft
I have the same set up RE 3.5 with rear springs, 31's on 15x8 with 4.5 back spacing.. no rubbing at all. lift actully sits about 4.5. I run it the same as you mud and trails
I dont think you can go wrong with either the MT's or AT's. I had the AT's on my dodge ram for about 50.000 miles and wore like steel.. another good tire is the Bridgestone Dueler Revo A/t .
