Hahaha I take it you've had a similar issue, ecomike?
I tried to figure out what was going on the other day when I had a chance, but I didn't have any tools or anything and the cable went straight into the main harness.
:Not important backstory:
Now I bought it from this place (Ironman 4x4)...
So I took the bad boy to a Jeep shop and they determined it was a blown fusable linkage to the ignition. Took them a few hours to find out what was wrong.
I need to figure out exactly why the linkage blew.
Mainly because it blew again.
Any ideas?
I haven't tested the cranking voltage. I bought the CPS at Autozone. I wasn't aware about the CPS mounting customization, is it simple to do?
I haven't checked the grounds yet. I've been needing to do that anyhow for a while now (I drive a bucket of oil pretty much.) So I'm going to try that...
So this is what I've done today:
Replaced the CPS, replaced the ignition coil, fuel filter.
Cleaned the spark plugs.
Yesterday the throttle body was cleaned.
Still no change.
Thinking it's an ignition or computer problem, because nothing is changing anything ever in the world
Would that cause this particular problem though? Because its getting enough spark to start and run while the key is in start position (I am aware that doing that is bad for the starter) but dies as soon as I put it in the in position. I would think if I wast getting the righ spark that wouldn't...
Still having this issue.
I have spark, gas, ballast resistor is bypassed, throttlebody has been taken off and cleaned thoroughly.
I'm going to replace the CPS tomorrow. though, I don't think that's the problem still because it wouldn't be starting at all, it'd just continuously turn. At least...
I haven't done a real try of the ballast resistor, I kind of did a half-assed attempt and it didn't work, so I'm not ruling it out.
I try to hit the gas every time it starts up, and it seems to rev, but it just quits immediately.
I'm going to do a real try with the ballast resistor or even just...
Long story:
So here I am driving my '90 XJ, and it dies out of nowhere with no apparent reason. It has 310k miles on it, so it's not an unusual thing for it to die unexpectedly for a second but it usually starts right back up.
It didn't this time, then the battery died. So I pushed it into a...
So far what's been happening is i'll drive for a while and stop and it'll sit for about 15minutes-hour and it starts fine for a few times then finally i'll leave it for 15 minutes-hour and it won't start.
Then i'll wait for about 5-10 minutes and it'll start right up and act a little funny for a...
You know what. I had a problem last week where my posi battery cable was being a jerk and I had to wiggle it around to get power at all. I probably need to replace it.
I'll definitely try that, thanks a lot!
1990 XJ inline 6 automatic 291k miles :O (engine was rebuilt and odo not reset so I'm not sure how many miles are actually on it.)
This doesn't ALWAYS happen, but it's happened a few times inconsitantly with no warning in the past couple weeks. It just turns and doesn't start, and then I'll wait...
True, but the dimmer still works. Does that effect anything?
I looked on teh interwebz for a "new" switch and couldn't find one. I guess I'll have to go to the local Jeep graveyard and snag one. They'll probably even put it in for me! epic win! haha
Okay, So.
My headlights (1990 XJ Limited) did this awesome thing where they kinda stopped working.
It started with just flickering occasionally and i'd just wiggle it or turn them off and on and they'd come on for a while. But when it started this BS I started smelling burning, which i assume...
