Your XJ is not amphibious. If you want to go through water, get and Argo, Max, Amphicat, Hydrotrax, Attex or other amphibious vehicle. If you want to sink your money into a sinking XJ it's up to you, I know I'm not made of money to throw away.
I tried to bend mine down, but it wasn't enough. That's when the hammer came out to play. If I had it to do over again, I'd have just drilled some new holes to mount it about an inch lower.
Yes, they do hit the hood. I took a ball peen hammer to my hood, and made a nice little raised "bump" in the hood, applied a little paint, and good as new. It would have probably been smarter to just redrill the bracket holes so the whole tank would sit about 1" lower.
I just bought the same front bumper, and I have the matching rear bumper for it too. I got them both for $100. I really like them and am suprized at how heavy they are. I think I'm going to weld in some more support for the front mount though. I'll probably fasten the rear as it should be...
A fellow here in Holland Michigan has a 86 XJ with a 318 in it for sale. Seeings that they are dodge/amc/jeep parts, it would seem logical to go with the same. Punch out the 318 if you want a bigger bore. If you go with a 350, try to find an older one with HEI ignition. That system is far...
For the most part this is an XJ (Cherokee) forum. If you don't get many replies that might be why. Some of the nice fellows here might be able to help you out though.
Jack the front wheel up off the ground and try to see if it is clicking at the disconnect, or, in the transfer case. What transfer case do you have a 231, or 242?
If you are looking at the actuator from underneath the passenger seat and looking toward the front of the vehicle, you need to supply vacuum to the middle line. Your part time light will be on all the time possibly.
Most of the vehicles around here that had the 242, are no longer running with their stock TC. Now, there are a bunch of people including me that are running their stock 231 with no problems. You can't even find a 242 in a junk yard here. So far, from the people that I've personally talked to...
That's not a flexplate, it's an inspection cover. You might want to pull it off, and make sure your flexplate bolt are all tight going to your torque convertor.
It will with a little modification. Do some searching, and if you can't find anything here, check out the AMCeaglenest forums, as that is a common thing to do with eagles.
