They are a very hard compound which makes them last a while on the road and can take some abuse but they do not grip well on rocks and really loose soil. You can expect them to run like hell when going forward in the mud but if u get stuck going forward you probably wont be able to back out due...
I've heard of people using stock late model chevy 1/2ton brake lines. Might run up to O'riellys and take them a brakeline, see if u can find something that will work. If not u can run up to a local hyraulic shop, im sure they can make u up a set, they are usually cheaper than having an acutal...

Here is a video of me breaking the shaft on mama bear, its towards the end. This is also what convinced me to ditch the front bumper as it looks nice but is just in the way. Also here are a couple pics of the shaft i broke. Its pretty ductile metal as it broke at exactly 90*.
