'01 cherokee starts and stalls - searched

no dealer required. sometimes i'd rather be lucky than good. if it's an intermittent problem like casm spoke of, i hope its far and few between.

ziptie the key, i wondered how they fooled the system. yea, i'm glad that the system is doing what it's intended to do. too bad it locks out the owner too. there ought to be a bypass so you can at least limp it to the dealer. imagine needing towed from the beach. just goes to show you never...

unfortunately, there's nothing the dealer can do (or will do). i know that there is no malice intent, and the the dealership's not out to get me but, the jeep is stranded because of a KEY, a frigging KEY, man i can't say it enough. this is going to cost a coulple hundred bucks after...

i'm calling the dealer this morning to see what my options are. she's going to need to tow it if it has to move anywhere. i don't like to hear about that intermittent stuff, but i like the idea of the diode bypass. how they sell something they know little about is beyond me. i mean big round...

it's actually the sentry key system i'm talking about. it was an option on '97 up. it uses a coded key to activate the computer and let the jeep run. neat system i guess, but why didn't somebody tell us about it. man, i could have been troubleshooting for days with no results. the upside to...

that's cool skyjacked, what did you do to disable that sucker? it seems to be tamper proof.

ok. she got a code reader and pulled code P1686, no SKIM bus received. apparently this thing has a theft deterrent on it. the dealer never told us when we bought it last year (and she paid cash) and we didn't know it had the option. they only gave her one key too so i can't even program it...

cps is one of the places i hope gets it going again. i'm trying to get her to exchange a known good battery and try that first. DC is aware of this problem and i think they even call it "start and stall". we're about 2 hours apart from each other yet so i'm relying on her to do this trouble...

'01 cherokee starts and stalls - searched

My daughter has an 01 cherokee, 4.0L, AW4. She came home from work and parked it. Went out later and it starts, but stalls. After searching on this site, I found a lot of people with similar problems. Theirs was fixed usually with a new or bypassed ballast resistor. This jeep doesn't have...

    On-The-Fly 4WD, Wrangler?

MIXJ:All that disconnect does is start the front driveshaft turning so it will engage. huh? that's backwards. the energy goes the other way. the disco just connects the axle pieces together. MIXJ:This is why if you are spinning tires it wont engage and just grind. grind, that's what i'm...

    On-The-Fly 4WD, Wrangler?

exactly. the splines get out of synch from each other due to wheel/axle rotation. the splines have to realign and mesh when the fork tries to push the collar over the outside axle. under 20mph seems to be ok, but any faster and that's when the grinding begins. to disconnect, the collar simply...

    On-The-Fly 4WD, Wrangler?

jeepdeepfreak, i have a 94 yj, well maintained, and it does not like to be shifted into 4hi at any speed over 20. grinds like a mogator. i've replaced the shift motor and still have the same affect. doesn't sound like there's anything synchro'd going on there. it will come out of 4hi at any...

    On-The-Fly 4WD, Wrangler?

your xfer case doesn't determine shift-on-the-fly status. all yj's come with a disco on the front axle. if you try to shift at 55 mph, you're going to have major grind. tj's came with non-disco axles anabling them to be shift-on-the-fly. be careful, your buddy has it right.
