I think the mount on this rack is just a bad design. I can't move the inner mounts any further inboard. It came off another XJ, but now that I think about it, I'm not sure it had the trim pieces on the gutters. Either way, I'm going to make some new brackets that go under the lip of the gutter...
I’m installing a Garvin roof rack with gutter mounts, but the mounts just don’t seem right to me. They pull up on the gutter trim, and the trim already slipped off on one side. I don’t trust the other side to not slip off when it’s bouncing around offroad. If I push the brackets all the way...
The link to the photo album on Imgur is in my initial post. It's not populating the photos on here, but the link still works. The burrs on the inside were substantial, and the misalignment at the splice is pronounced. The flange was warped beyond what most people would consider acceptable.
Interesting! I hadn’t compared them. Looks like 304 is more corrosion resistant but 409 is a bit tougher. It’s interesting that the knockoff is 304 when 304 is more expensive: https://help.summitracing.com/knowledgebase/article/SR-03932/en-us
Maybe 304 is easier to work with? Either way, I’m...
Update: I bought a knockoff of the Banks Torque Tube on eBay for $165 shipped. It's an exact clone, but higher quality. Perfect TIG welds, no splices, and the flange is completely straight. 304 stainless too. SMH.
Update: It's been two months and I still have the defective header. I was communicating with both Summit and Banks via email and stopped getting replies. Banks was supposed to email me a return label for an exchange and never did. I called Summit today and asked if I could just return it for a...
They were drop shipped from Banks in Banks boxes. I messaged both Banks and Summit. Summit’s website allowed me to upload photos, so hopefully there will be some sort of resolution.
I bought a Banks Revolver Header from Summit and exchanged it because it had multiple defects. Tubes 5 and 6 were cut and welded, but not deburred at the cuts. There were large burrs inside each tube, but they were too far in to reach with a die grinder. The flange was warped ~1mm. The #6 tube...
Do you think a quality stainless header could be built and sold for ~$320? Maybe if it was a copy of Banks? I feel like Banks would have sizeable budgets for marketing and research/testing. The RT honestly doesn't look bad to me, but I've never worked in your industry...
I'm not doubting that the Revolver is a good header, just wondering if it's worth the price difference over the more recent competitors. Russ only recommends the best, but from where I stand, the best usually comes with diminishing returns, and 2nd or 3rd best is usually pretty darn close but a...
You're right, it is the Revolver! $500 seems high for a single header though, and so much of my money is going to other things that I really need to cut costs where I can. If a $300 header does what it needs to, and $300 sounds reasonable to me for a quality header, I'm all for it. If the...
