i just installed a uniden pro 538w, with a cheapo mag mount antenna, i took it off the magnent and mounted it where my stock radio antenna goes, i put it all back together exactly how it came apart and didnt cut the wire or anything its supposed to get the wheather stations but i cant get those...

I dont think a power cap will help, im no pro but caps. are used for something that draws alot of power for just a few moments such as an amp for a stereo, you should think about upgrading your alternator to one that puts out higher amperage

To bad you are so far away, i could get it done for free, the company i work for has a Fusion tank lining division and we got some nice plastic welders.

Use ALOT of lube when mounting by hand with some pry bars, it makes it way easier. WD-40 works good, dawn dish soap watered down a little will work good also.
