It should come with it, so you should have what you need. Remember that you cannot drive the ujoint cap completly out on the double joint like you would on a single joint. The most you will get is about half way out. Then put the cap in a vice and smack the yoke with a hammer to get it out...
I would start with a new set of spark plugs and disconnect the battery while you change them out. This will help the computer to reset itself. Also, the roof rack is probably costing a couple MPG all by itself from wind resistance.
Mbjeep got it right. With single ujoints at each end of the driveshaft, the goal is to get the rear axle pinion shaft parallel to the tcase output shaft. If the double jointed (carden joint or CV style) driveshaft is used, then you want the rear axle pinion to be directly in-line with the...

I also have a complete exhaust system that you can buy all or part of from the same 2001 XJ. Good shape other than the typical surface rust.
Pre-cats $30 each.
O2...
Once you have a leak like you do, the mud and sand holds the oil in the tube and it is pretty hard to clean out. I've found that if you get a length of threaded rod and bolt a large washer to the end between two nuts, you can use it as a scraper to clean out the hard stuff. Then the rag...
Al, give it a couple of weeks and see if it loosens up on it's own (mine did). But right now you can check for anything rubbing or binding. Disconnect the steering stablizer and move it by hand just to make sure it isn't hanging up.
