How many miles are on the 96 motor? The reason I ask is I have a 01 thats been rolled. I'm about to buy a 98 that needs a motor but the 00 and 01 models are set up different. I'd be up for a swap if your interested.

I have a 01 XJ sport rolled on the drivers side. Passenger side pannels are in fairly good shape. Everything is stock. Running gear is in good condition, minus front axle housing. All parts up for sale. PM me for details. Will deliver within reasonable distance. Droopy

If you solve this, please post what you found. My brother has a 00 XJ. It has an extended crank, and misfires on cyl 5 & 6 at idle. Runs fine off idle. I've replaced the coilpack, plugs, CPS and swapped the injectors around. Still get the same misfires at idle.
