Rusty's transfer case skid hitting exhaust?

I had that issue, but not bad. For me, it was one of the exhaust clamps that was hitting. I just had to cut it off and replace with a new clamp. The new clamp was bolted on rotated 45 degrees. It is close, but doesn't hit.

doesn't like to stay running when cold

Hmmm.... good question. I guess the gas could be 6 weeks old now. I didn't think gas went skunky that quickly. Anyone else have this issue with bad gas? Anything else that could cause this? At first I thought I may have put the wrong viscosity oil in it, but 5-30 syn should be ok for cold temps.

doesn't like to stay running when cold

Ok, it has been as cold as -30C up here for a couple of weeks. I don't drive my jeep all that much (once per week or so) because it is a second (but very fun) vehicle. The last couple of times I have used it, the jeep doesn't like to stay running unless I stay on the gas a bit. If I let my foot...

    OHC in 4.0?

SCCA28: That cylinder head looks very familiar. If you hadn't written what it was from I was going to guess a solid lifter vw head. Incidentally, the only other vehicle (aside from my jeep) I have spent any amount of time working on. 5-90: From working on vw's I have seen both solid lifter and...

    OHC in 4.0?

Pushrods are cheaper and easier to put together for an inline engine? Hmmm, I wouldn't have figured. I am not arguing with you, I really don't know any better. I just assumed that an OHC would be easier because you get rid of the pushrods, rocker, and the associated passageways you need in the...

    OHC in 4.0?

Couldn't you tune an OHC engine to have low end torque?

    OHC in 4.0?

I too like the 4.0L, even though it is based on very old technology. I can't help but think that with some of the modern design elements I mentioned it could have continued production and met current standards. But there is the question... why was it designed the way it was? Is a pushrod engine...

    OHC in 4.0?

Before you flame me, understand I am just asking a couple of theoretical questions out of general curiosity. I understand why a v8 would have pushrods. That way you can minimize the number of camshafts you need. By why use pushrods in an inline engine? Really, doesn't using pushrods just add...

    axle virgin needs help

I have faith in you. You can do this job. I have only set up a couple of axles in my life. My HP30 and my 8.25. I read a TON. The first axle took two weeks of evenings and weekends. Most of that time was spent with reading material in hand, the axle in front of me, and one hand scratching my...

    Iron Scorpion Bumper Kit???

Count me in for the winch bumper kit. If there is any doubt regarding the demand for this product, I hope my vote pushes it towards development.

    Anyone?

    Clutch pedal engagement

Just last weekend I replaced my clutch, throwout bearing, and pilot bearing. The flywheel was in good shape, so I just took some fine sand paper to it and scuffed it up. Bolted it all back together and it seems to work ok. Here is the thing: Before replacing the clutch the pedal felt heavy...

    Dry shot NOS

It is a dry system. He doesn't add any additional fuel. If he was running a wet system it would add additional fuel when hitting the nitrous. Right now you are thinking "what the hell good is additional oxidizing agent (NOS) without additional fuel?!?!". Hopefully your computer will realize...

    Detroit Truetrac Locker

A Detroit Truetrac will be invisible for normal street driving but will deliver extra traction for off road. A Detroit SoftLocker, however, will act as you describe. Assuming you have a TrueTrac... don't worry, install it, drive it, be happy.

    Very upset with Rusty's Offroad

I am sorry to hear about all the trouble with Rusty's, but not at all surprised. Almost exactly a year ago I had the same trouble. I ordered diffs and gears. It took almost 5 MONTHS to get all the parts. And when all was said and done, I still didn't have what I had ordered (got a D30 detroit...
