What other trouble shooting can I do......or is it the ECM?
2001 XJ 2 WD
Electric fan runs constantly due to previous owner wiring in a relay by the fuse box.
When this relay is disconnected the electric fan stops.
With the extra relay disconnected - disconnect the coolant sensor...
@Rainman - What I am hearing you say is that it is probably the coolant sensor (the one in the thermostat housing) circuit that is bad?
I have replaced the sensor already.....so it would be the wiring between the sensor and the ecm that would be suspect?
Thank you all for your replies.
Thanks - I will disconnect the 'extra' relay and see if the fan comes on at temp.
IF, the fan does not come on at temperature....is there anything else I can look at it or is it
most likely the PCM//ECU at this point?
they connected it into the PDC somewhere.....I have not pulled the PDC to see where....but I am thinking it is tied into the wiring for the relay in the PDC.
2 wires come off the PDC and connect to 2 terminals on the added relay and another wire from the relay to ground. I don't appear to be...
Is this an electric fan MOD to make the fan run constantly?
The electric fan comes on when the ignition key is turned on and runs constantly until the ignition key is turned off.
I think I verified that this added relay is a bypass for the electric fan.
When the added relay is disconnected...
He was repairing it to running condition.....I think they should compensate as if the jeep was running.
If he repaired it he would have had what appears to have been a great XJ.....but due to the tow drivers irresponsibility...that is no longer an option. Not the owners fault...that is all on...
back to my performance non-oem issue--for what is is worth--just found this: http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB1&Number=925507&Searchpage=3&Main=925492&Words=zddp+jeep+flat+tappet&topic=&Search=true#Post925507

Looks like they were established in 1947 before they were eventually purchased by Williams oil. http://www.warrenunilube.com/Unilube_Info.pdf
You state in a pinch you would use them. I am feeling the pinch now. I think I am going to start using their oil, because like you, I can not go to...
Does anyone know anything about coastal motor oil?

This is sold at my local autozone.
This is their line on it:

I read this in a Hot Rod magazine article (http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/flat_tappet_cam_tech/)
The reduction first started in the mid-'80s, and it has been a gradualprocess, but the latest API SM and GF-4 specs have reduced ZDDP contentto such an extent that the new oils may not...
I am not too sharp about this topic but I am now worried about it.
at this site: http://www.burkeoil.com/pdf/oilguide.pdf it indicates that I would want to use an oil with a rating of SJ, SH, SL, and even SM (by their defintion).
Then the oil manufacturers site...
i had to replace the light socket when that happened to me (twice so far on different jeeps).
You might try getting a steel bottle brush (battery section at autozone or someplace like that) and cleaning the contacts before replacing.
I just swapped it out with another one I had from a donor...
Hey there John!
It has been my experience that the NSS is go/no go proposition. It may come and go...but not a weak start.
Man, you have done just about everything I could think of. Might use the ground side of a set of jumper cables and connect only the ground/black cable to the negative...
