    Identify the Tube?

Found a short black tube under my 88 XJ. 1/2in diameter, about 10in long, one end cut at an angle like a vent tube, the other end has a 3in long rubber tube over the end. Will post a pic when i get to a computer. Any hints where it goes so I can put it back? :D

    Anyone know Digital SLRs?

The Rebel XT comes with a rechargeable 720mAh Li-Ion battery and charger... I don't think I've ever seen a NON-rechargeable battery for it. In practical numbers, I've taken 4GB worth of long-exposure shots with an image-stabilized lens (two power-hungry options at once) and there was still power...

Well it's either that or the muffler bearings...

    Christmas lights

It's slightly laggy probably because the lights are standard Tungsten style and there's a delay in them turning on and off. Anyway, look at the little light flashing to of the house, I'd assume from a radio/cell tower of some sort. If it was stop-motion assembled, that light would probably go...

    Christmas lights

uhoh, you've woken the computer engineering student...:D Definitely computer controlled. And without buying the $1000+ Christmas Kit, cost depending on how many expension boxes you'd need, here's how you could hack it together: get something like this relay controller board, wire your...

Help deciding to fix or get rid of '00XJ?

Which is what I ended up doing. Small (but big enough to cause major problems) crack in the head, on the top, between the cyl3-4 exhaust valves. Far too many hours out in the garage and a replacement head, and no more water in the oil. Still have pretty low oil pressure (10-12 at idle after a...

    Unknown Connectors...???

Old analog style car phone maybe? or a CD changer remote box?

Renix used to cutout, now it's dead

Odd theory, but since it's what happened on my 88 XJ when it had fuel pump problems it's worth a shot: does the jeep ever try and catch while you're turning the key to Start, then die when it's in Run? if I'm remembering correctly the Start circuit feeds power to the fuel pump through a bypass...

    New XJ: 2000-2001

Look at the fluids VERY CAREFULLY... if there's more rust than water in the radiator, or the oil is starting to look like a milkshake, stay far away. Some 2000 (maybe 2001) XJs had a defect in the 0331-casting cylinder head, makes them crack far too easily between the #3 and #4 exhaust valves on...

    '99 head on '00 block?

yes, still fighting the leaky 2000 engine problem. Machine shop guy said the head magnafluxed fine, and remilled the surface for me, but i got it all back together and it's still got a exhaust<->water<->oil leak somewhere. Only thing I can think of is that maybe there was a crack behind one of...

AC fog, black plastic foam, no heat?

Strangest thing happened today - I was driving along in the rain, I had the AC on low, and it started blowing fog out the AC vents. Only visible 3-4 inches away from the vents, dissipated as it went farther. Not really a problem per se, I don't think, but passengers may think it's a bit weird if...

Help deciding to fix or get rid of '00XJ?

Ok, so I fixed it. Kinda. :D Disassembled everything. Took the evil 0331 head to a local (and highly recommended by the good local mechanics) machine shop. They magnafluxed it and found [drumroll please]... nothing. Crack-free, supposedly. Just a bad head gasket? Could it be true? So they...

    Dad cracked my front clip

Header panel. So that's what it's called... :D Finding plenty of them now... and it's only like $50-$75 unpainted. I was afraid it'd be in the $500 range; it looked like an expensive part anyway. thanks all =]

    Dad cracked my front clip

Anybody got a front clip (the big fiberglass nose piece) for a 97-01 newer-style XJ? Unpainted or dark blue would be nice... or how much do you think this will cost from wherever I can get one? Any way to fix without replacing the piece? Mine got cracked when Dad got a bit too overzealous...
