    Flowmaster, Heat Shields and Autozone

I had a Flowmaster 50 series on mine for about a year. Didn't notice extra heat coming in through the floor. No melted carpet or undercoating.

    Tires for lifted DD

My XJ is a DD, about 40 miles a day for work. I have 31-10.50 Trxus MT's on 15x8 Rockcrawler steel wheels(3.75b/s). I have about 15-20,000 miles on them, and they look to be good to go another 15-20,000. They were $950 for 5, shipped, mounted, balanced, with lugs and center caps from NTW...

    Thick Gears

I would think thick gears might actually be a little stronger? Little thicker, less deflection?

    242 sye

Didn't know that. Thanks for the correction. BTW mine's a 97.

    242 sye

I called and ordered a 242 SYE from him today. I'll find out for sure next week, but the person I talked to said they cut off the splined section, and then respline the shaft. The end of the yoke presses against the bearing. So if all that is true, no it isn't a hack and tap.

    Noise, passenger side rear axial.

Sounds kinda like wheel bearings to me. Is it kind of a hollow grinding sound?

    242 sye

Maybe the pic is of a 231 version, but in the TW instructions for there SYE, http://www.4xshaft.com/np231sye.html , it looks like he does more than just hack n tap. It looks like he hacks and resplines the shaft closer to the output bearing. Is this true for the 242 version?

    New cooling idea?

I don't know too much about how the coolant flows in an I6, but.. What if you ran some of the coolant going back to the radiator through a heater core or some other cooler, then ran that cooled coolant into the head through the octopus setup? Or maybe tap into the water pump supply and run it...

    Upgrading to a better battery.

I went with a group 34 size battery, Optima red top in my 97(also had a cheap Walmart one in there too). I think the 99-ups use these? All you need to do for these is cut off the raised lip on the inboard side of the battery tray(longer battery). The little bracket that ties the hold down...

I found some cheap xj fender flares

Where's a good place to get rear TJ flares cheap, just Ebay? I've seen them around for about $30 each, anything cheaper new? BTW, the junkyards up here suck.

I found some cheap xj fender flares

What is the width of stock TJ flares? Is there any difference in the Rubicon flares?

    Exhaust work

I bought the Rusty's exhaust a while ago, 50 series Flowmaster I think? Switched to a Dynomax Super Turbo and liked the sound better. Not a big difference, but less raspy/more mellow, and quieter inside.

    Pulled over again....

Sheesh, look at North Dakota, where i'm stationed. "Maximum allowable lift for suspension system is 4”. No modifications to OEM suspension, steering, or braking systems are allowed on vehicles weighing less than 7000 lbs." Guess I'd be screwed, good thing I'm MN registered, where I'm limited...
