I'm at the SEMA show in vegas and what do I see in the MTX booth? custom subwoofer enclosures made just for jeep XJ's!!! they fit on the right-hand rear corner opposite the spare tire... fit a 10" woofer, and are being shown empty, loaded with a MTX subwoofer, and loaded with both a...

    Broken motor mount bolts

I'm working on Holy_handgrenade's truck for him, since he's not very experienced yet (hasn't had a 4x4 long enough) :gag: So far we've been able to extract one bolt, and it wasn't bottomed out at all, in fact my feeler gauge says it had a solid half inch left to go (assuming the boss...

    Upper Control Arm hits engine?

ok, cool - this is what I wanted to hear. To clarify, the guy who has it now (my friend) is a new owner of the vehicle, and I've told him repeatedly that jumping is strictly for people who can afford to fix broken stuff. he can't afford it. :greensmok So, i guess the previous owner...

    fuel pump noise

I have 3 friends with XJ's, 87, 88, and 90 - all three make the loud hissing noise from their tail end and have been doing so as long as the current owners have had the vehicles. Not sure if that helps you anyway, but at least you can see that it is a common behavior.

    Upper Control Arm hits engine?

I just got back from 'wheeling with my friend who has a "new" 1988 XJ . The previous owner(s) put 170k miles on it for him :passgas: He's new to 4x4's so I was giving him a tour of his undercarriage and repairing a badly adjusted transfer case shift linkage, when I noticed this...

Advice from those who wheel XJ's

thanks for the continued advice - no such thing as too much :) as for buildup suggestions - I've been searching the forum and there are tons of good posts on those so I think I know what direction to point this guy in for building up his rig when he's ready to pick up the wrench. For this...

Advice from those who wheel XJ's

Thanks for the advice guys :) I'll watch out for his rockers, and have a look under the truck for vulnerable parts. Was planning to give the owner a tour of his underbelly anyhow, since he's both a novice wheeler and a general automotive novice as well. (words like transfer case and...

MAP Sensor and Idle Speed Stepper Motor

the idle motor - often called an IAC - regulates idle by opening and closing an air valve. In conjunction with your fuel injectors and O2 sensor feedback, if your idle is too slow, the IAC motor lets more air in and the injectors dump a corresponding increase in fuel, and your idle returns...

Introducing the Jeegle... (lotsa pics, dialup beware...)

heh.. I almost bought an eagle SX4 with the intention to add a 2-range Tcase and adequately large tires. Good to see that what I imagined would've worked - very cool car :) (and subaru says they invented the all terrain wagon ... ? )...

Advice from those who wheel XJ's

I've got a favor to ask of anyone who can give me advice: I've driven IFS rigs for my entire wheeling "career" and presently really enjoy a 91 Trooper. Since we (mitsu, isuzu, etc) are kinda bastard children of the wheeling world we usually have to stick together and I honestly haven't spent...

    gas prices in your area???

maybe it's time to write your city and state legislators to start getting more ethanol into the pumps! competition drives down prices, ethanol means American jobs, and it's a whole lot nicer to the environment than gasoline is. lots of brand new american-made vehicles are already...

Re: Greg Smith Power door locks writeup anyone know how many amps the locks use? I have a (new, in box) relay and socket from another piece of equipment that's DPDT .. however it's only rated 10A per circuit. will this work for the locks?

anyone know where we can get the best price on a new TPS then?

    TPS cross reference

My girlfriend's 87 XJ has what appears to be a damaged TPS, evidenced by inconsistent throttle response, lack of transmission kickdown response, and a voltmeter connected to the TPS shows nearly flat with a couple of spikes when you move it. The trouble is, we're cheapasses by economic...

    Onboard shower?

if you have a manual trans and your radiator has the internal auto trans cooler - you've already got a heat exchanger on your truck. Otherwise, get a refrigerant heat exchanger on ebay for a few bucks, or wrap a copper tube around your exhaust tube :) this site has a "not safe...
